Hungry Harvest

One in six people in the U.S. go hungry and 40 percent of the U.S. food supply gets wasted. Maryland-based company Hungry Harvest is on a mission to solve this by delivering rescued produce straight to your door. They are also one of the few online farmers markets to accept SNAP benefits.

Hungry Harvest reached out to Big Spoon Co. to help with their launch in the Richmond market. Our team put together a plan to build brand awareness and establish a base of subscribers. Activities included community outreach, media relations, influencer marketing, and creating a virtual cooking series featuring local chefs.

Our community outreach focused on a monthly theme. We partnered with women-owned businesses for International Women’s Month and the Cardiovascular Center at VCU for Heart Month to drop off free produce boxes. Hungry Harvest also donated 500 pounds of fresh produce to Richmond restaurant workers impacted by COVID-19.

For our paid influencer campaign, we worked with popular instagrammers in the region to celebrate the launch of Hungry Harvest. Our chef and foodie partners captured unboxing videos showcasing the bounty they received and shared a discount code with their followers.

Media pitching from Big Spoon Co. also led to media coverage discussing their launch in the area, the convenience of their business model during COVID, their support to those in need during the pandemic, and how their mission resonated with many residents.

We produced a trio of free virtual cooking classes that were led by popular Richmond chefs to give Hungry Harvest a platform to discuss their products and mission. Advance registration helped grow Hungry Harvest’s email list with 200 to 500 new subscribers per class that could be converted to active customers.

Hungry Harvest has continued to see growth in the Richmond market.
