Reading For Fun: What The Big Spoon Team Is Reading This Summer

Being an adult can be hard. There’s no more recess, no allowance for doing the dishes or putting your laundry away, and we no longer receive personal pizzas for reaching summer reading goals. But it’s not all bad! As adults, we have the power to have ice cream for breakfast, play hooky on our birthday, and read whatever we feel like- summer reading lists be damned.

Here’s what the Big Spoon team is enjoying reading this summer:

Taylor, Account Coordinator

An avid reader, Taylor sets a goal to read two books every month. She is currently reading It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. The novel experienced a surge in popularity in 2021 thanks to being featured on #BookTok, a TikTok subcommunity focused on books. It debuted at #1 on The New York Times best sellers list in January 2022. Although Taylor just started the book, she has enjoyed it so far.

Carla, Web Developer

Carla, who recently moved with her husband to the states from Guatemala, has been tirelessly reading updates from the CDC and other organizations in anticipation of bringing her beloved dogs to their new home. Her dogs, Leia and Latte, are currently being spoiled by their grandPAWrents in Guatemala while they wait for permission to travel overseas.

Karlyn, Graphic Designer

Karlyn recently picked up The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid from a book exchange and is enjoying it quite a bit so far. The book follows a reclusive actress who reveals the glamorous and scandalous details of her Hollywood life to an unknown journalist. It is loosely based on the life of Elizabeth Taylor, who was married to seven different men, as well as Ava Gardner, who revealed her life’s secrets to a journalist.

Erin, Business Development & Operations Manager

As with many adults, Erin’s love of reading is often at war with the real-life challenge of staying awake long enough to do so before bed. To reconcile this issue, she listens to novels as audiobooks throughout the week. Her book club reads books that are being made into movies, so she just finished Where the Crawdads Sing, by somewhat controversial author Delia Owens.

Enrique, Partner & Creative Director

Enrique likes to use his “downtime” to stay on top of the latest technology trends. One way that he does so is by reading Gizmodo each morning. Gizmodo is a website that focuses on technology, design, and social trends. Enrique also keeps an eye on blog sites Engadget and Mashable

Kevin, Partner & Communications Director

As a business owner, finding free time can be a challenge, which is why having the opportunity to enjoy some personal reading is a rare and welcome treat for Kevin. The most recent book he sat down with was The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides. While Kevin doesn’t often read fiction, he was pleasantly surprised by how suspenseful the book was.
