Barb has been known to snag a client in a hotel lobby, simply from a conversation. An East Carolina University grad, she hopped across the pond post-college to work for a newspaper in London. She operated her own marketing company before returning to Richmond. Since, she has taught business workshops, guided startups and emerged as a force in the food and beverage community. Kevin Clay

PROBLEM SOLVER, RESTAURANT FANATIC, TASK MASTER
A Richmond native with a hospitality background, Kevin has always had a passion for the restaurant scene. The Virginia Commonwealth University alumni aligned with public relations organically, and found himself helping the restaurants he worked for take it up a notch. The OG founder of Big Spoon Co., Kevin launched the agency in 2013, eventually inviting his cohorts to join him.

enrique mendez

RESULTS-DRIVEN, REAL ESTATE ACE, BRAND AUTHORITY
Hailing from Guatemala, Enrique moved to Virginia at 21. Taking notice that minority-owned businesses were not taken as seriously, he launched his own agency, Design by E, where he specialized in social media management. Following a 10-year-run, he merged with Kevin and Barb in 2024.
Noteworthy: Former client roster includes one of the fastest-growing real estate companies on the East Coast; grew the Carytown Merchants Association page exponentially; native Spanish speaker.
Erin Brunner
-
While Erin is not native to Richmond, she has come to call Richmond home since moving here from Pennsylvania in 2005. Years of working in event management and in the hospitality industry quickly familiarized her with the range of food, drink, and events that RVA has to offer. When she is not working, you may find her at a festival, strolling the River City, or enjoying a local restaurant with her husband and son. Before joining the team at Big Spoon, Erin studied Communication & Media Studies and developed an “above and beyond” approach for her clients.
Fun facts: Erin loves dirty chai lattes, Halloween, and traveling
Favorite movie: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Childhood dream job: stuntwoman

Taylor Roane
-
Born and raised in Richmond, Va., Taylor is a lover of all the things the city has to offer. For Taylor it’s important to be submerged in art, culture, history and Richmond has all of that and more. She loves being in walking distance to so many great things. Taylor’s entire life she has learned from, worked under, and created bonds from amazing women who taught her the importance of community, education and love. When Taylor is not writing or creating content as one of Big Spoon Co.’s Account Coordinator you can find her with her family, friends or partner who all are a huge part of her life and she enjoys spending time with them whenever she can.
Before starting at Big Spoon, Taylor studied public relations at VCU and worked in marketing and branding.
Fun Fact: Taylor loves reading. It is always her goal to finish one book a month.
Richmond restaurant dish I can’t live without: Taylor is a huge foodie and loves exploring all the great eats our River City has to offer. Her favorite Richmond dish would have to be an order of spinach and artichoke dip from Mellow Mushroom (with an extra order of bread).

our Story
Big Spoon Co. began stirring things up in 2013 when Kevin Clay launched the agency with a focus on marketing and PR for food and beverage brands. Fast forward to 2020, Enrique Mendez joined as a partner, bringing his graphic design expertise from his own firm, Design By E. Together, Kevin and Enrique added new layers of creativity and content to the mix.
In 2023, Barb Lamb officially joined the Big Spoon family after years of collaborating with the agency through her own food-focused marketing firm, The Apple Cart Company. With Barb on board, Big Spoon Co. became a trio, blending Kevin’s communications expertise, Enrique’s creative direction, and Barb’s knack for client strategy into one powerhouse team.
Today, our small-but-mighty team of seven is driven by a shared passion for crafting impactful stories, unforgettable campaigns, and deliciously good ideas. With creativity and collaboration at the heart of everything we do, we’re always stirring up something big.
